Awesome Chong Wei demolishes Hidayat in PROTON Malaysia Open Superseries final

Lee Chong Wei turned in arguably his best ever performance against former world and Olympic champion Taufik Hidayat to win his seventh PROTON Malaysia Open Superseries title at Putra Stadium in Kuala Lumpur on Sunday.
The world No. 1 also won his home title in 2004, 2005, 2006, 2008, 2009 and 2010. Denmark’s Peter Gade was the 2007 winner.
Chong Wei is now one win away from equalling Wong Peng Soon’s record of eight Malaysian titles but based on his performance on Sunday, should be able to equal it next year.
In a packed Putra Stadium, which also saw the presence of Malaysian Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak and his wife as well as several other Ministers, Chong Wei turned on the style to blow away his Indonesian opponent 21-8, 21-17.
Afterwards, a delighted Chong Wei dedicated the win to the home crowd, some of whom had arrived at the stadium as early as five hours before the final.
“I was determined to win the tournament as it is my home title,” said Chong Wei, who will leave for South Korea later on Sunday to compete in the VICTOR Korea Open, which is one of five OSIM BWF World Superseries Premier tournaments.
"I am satisfied with my performance here because I am playing in front of my own fans and I did not want to disappoint them. I hope I can carry on the form from here to Seoul. I have always given my best wherever I go. It will be the same in Korea too.”
It was a final which went according to the script. Chong Wei is the No 1 seed and the 30-year old Indonesian seeded No 2 and the absence of China's Lin Dan, acknowledged as the world's best player, having pulled out earlier because of an injury, was temporarily forgotten.
Chong Wei was in commanding form right from the start. Hidayat the 2004 Olympic champion, kept pace but as the match wore on it was obvious who the better player on the court was.
And even at moments when Hidayat looked threatening, Chong Wei had all the answers to pull away the easy winner.Lee Chong Wei and Taufik Hidayat podium
