Meet the new Koo Kien Keat.He has lost a couple of kilos over the last two months, has experienced a massive change in his eating habit but his commitment towards winning on the badminton court remains the same.
The world’s No 3 men's doubles pair together with Tan Boon Heong has confessed that he has not been eating any rice - a staple food in his diet – for the past two months, only meat and vegetables and it has resulted in him looking much more slimmer than usual."I am not on a diet but I am not eating a lot either. In fact I have not had a single grain of rice for the past two months. But there is nothing wrong with me, physically and medically. It's just a change of eating habit,” said Kien Keat after he and partner Chin Ee Hui earned their ticket into the main draw of the mixed doubles in the PROTON Malaysia Open Superseries, the opening event of the 2011 OSIM BWF World Superseries after a 21-15, 21-16 win over fellow Malaysians Lim Kim Wah-Lim Yin Loo.
A place in the main draw is seen as a perfect start for the reigning Commonwealth Games mixed doubles gold medallist but Kien Keat has reminded Malaysian fans not to expect too much from them.
“Of course we were unseeded in New Delhi but went onto win the gold in the New Delhi Commonwealth Games. But it will be different this time. We are realistic enough to know that there are far better opponents out there in the Malaysia Open.
“In India it was different. We knew we could win the gold if we play well. But not here in Kuala Lumpur. As long as we can upset a seeded pair and reach the last eight, we will be happy," said Kien Keat.
The No 1 seeds are Thailand’s Sudket Prapakamol-Saralee Thoungthonkan with South Korea’s Ko Sung Hyun-and Ha Jung Eun, seeded second.
