Chong Wei survives Jorgensen test

PROTON Malaysia Open Superseries champions Lee Chong Wei and Wang Shixian reached the second round of the VICTOR Korea Open Superseries Premier in contrasting styles in Seoul on Wednesday.
Chen JinWhile China’s superstar Wang Shixian had it easy against Thailand’s Salajit Ponsana, Malaysia’s world No. 1 Chong Wei was given a tough fight by Denmark’s Jan o Jorgensen, who became the first player this year to take a game off Chong Wei.
Wang Shixian, who like Chong Wei is chasing a third consecutive title in January – they both won the VICTOR BWF Super Series Finals and PROTON Malaysia Open – thrashed Salajit 21-16, 21-11 to set up a second round encounter with Japan Ai Goto
Goto reached the second round by beating Chinese Taipei qualifier Pai Hsiao Ma 21-14, 23-21. Also reaching the second round is Denmark's Tine Baun (right).  Tine Rasmussen
Chong Wei, meanwhile, had to dig deep as the ever dangerous O Jorgensen, who won his first ever Superseries title when he took the Danish Open in on Nov 1, showed he has the potential to go toe-to-toe with the best in the business.
Chonbg Wei, the defending champion, was in his element in the opening game when he ran O Jorgensen ragged to chalk up an easy 21-9 win. But it was a different story in the second game as the 23-year-old Dane matched Chong Wei stroke for stroke and levelled the match with a 21-18 win.
Stung by the loss of his first game this year, Chong Wei, the Olympic silver medallist tried every trick in his book in the decider and eventually won 21-16 and he will now meet South Korea’s Park
Joining Chong Wei in the second round are former Korea Open champion Peter Gade of Denmark and Indonesia’s former world and Olympic champion Taufik Hidayat and China’s reigning world champion Chen Jin (above) and three-time world champion Lin Dan.
In the men’s doubles, former world No. 1s Koo Kien Keat-Tan Boon Heong of Malaysia made up for their stunning first round upset in Kuala Lumpur a week ago by beating South Korea’s Cho Gun Woo-Kwon Yi Goo 21-11, 21-17.
They will now play Chinese qualifiers Hong Wei-Shen Ye who defeated Germany’s Michael Fuchs-Oliver Roth 21-12, 21-8.
