Denmark’s Carsten Mogensen-Mathias Boe turned on the style to win the men’s doubles final at the VICTOR BWF Super Series Finals 2010 at Hsinchuang Gymnasium in Chinese Taipei on Sunday.
The world No. 1, who had never won the season-ending crown before, demolished defending champions Lee Yong Dae-Jung Jae Sung in straight games to claim the title on one of their favourite venues.
Mogensen-Boe, who won the 2008 Taipei Open, defeated their arch rivals 21-17, 21-15 in 42 minutes to claim the top prize to begin the year with a bang. The victory also avenged Friday’s 21-18, 21-15 lost to the same South Korean opponents in the group stages.
That match, however, was only to decide Group B winners and as such, the Europeans held back as they wanted to conserve energy for a semi-final meeting against world champions Cai Yun-Fu Haifeng, a match they duly won.
In Sunday’s final, the Danes employed a fast attacking game plan throughout the match and led from the start. This forced the South Koreans to be on the defensive and it worked against them.
Boe told a Press Conference that he is happy more money is coming into badminton but conceded he will be an old man by the time the money will be as lucrative as it is in tennis.
Yong Dae, meanwhile, said he is confident they will get better once the new OSIM BWF World Superseries 2011 begins with the Proton Malaysia Open from Jan 18-23.
